FAQs
Does my child need to know how to ride a bike or skateboard to join the Bike + Skate after school session?
For our after school sessions we prefer that riders know how to pedal/ride on a two-wheeler bike. They can be very green, but must be stable. As for skating, they can be very beginner. If your child DOES NOT know how to ride a two-wheeler, enrolling in a small group lesson, which we offer on Saturdays, would be the way to go! Then, they will be ready to enroll in our after school programming. If you have questions about the ages and/or days to sign up, please reach out. We are much more interested in the child’s developmental readiness vs. age to determine which section would be best for kids.
Do I need to bring my child’s bike, or do you provide bikes? And, how about skateboards? Do we need to bring our own?
We provide the bikes: from balance bikes to 18” bikes. In fact, no outside bikes will be permitted in our space and on our tracks. We recommend bringing your own skateboard. Please note that we also sell bikes and skateboards!
What does my child need to bring to your Bike + Skate sessions?
Your child will need: a well-fitting helmet, water bottle, sneakers (preferably Vans), and protective padding for skateboarding. We sell helmet and pads in our Pro shop.
My child needs academic learning support. Is this the right place for them?
Angela De Vincenzo is a learning specialist and on-site daily, while she no longer holds a private practice, she is happy to speak/consult with families about their child’s learning trajectory. Literacy and executive functioning skills are folded into each session here at BBB. In addition, riding on our track helps with anxiety, developing gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and core strengthening. It’s essentially a sensory gym!
What if the day/age group does not work for us?
We feel strongly about clustering kids by developmental readiness - it makes for a much smoother, safer, and more rich experience for both the kids and the instructors. We do encourage you to reach out to us, as we are more interested in developmental readiness than age, and so there is some wiggle room in our sign ups with regards to age.
Do you do birthday parties and/or private events?
Yes, on weekends we can provide our space, program and instructors for private events. Please contact us regarding particulars, and scheduling.
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold a date for an event.
Do you still operate your biking program in Bridgehampton, NY?
We are no longer operating the program in Bridgehampton. While we launched the program (Blocks, Trucks + Art) there in 2015, we are putting all of our time and attention to our new brick-and-mortar space here in Brooklyn: Bikes, Boards + Books!
